MECHANISM OF SOLID STATE SYNTHESIS OF BISMUTH FERRITE BI25FEO39

Bismuth ferrite Bi25FeO39 with sillenite-structure is of interest to magnetooptics, but the complexity of obtaining crystals of this compound from the melt determines the need to study the mechanism of solid phase synthesis. In the solid phase interaction has been studied Bismuth oxide and iron (III) as a mixture of 25: 1, and point of contact annealing: Bi2O3 and Fe2O3 vapor diffusion in the temperature range from 893 to 1013 K from 1 to 8 days away. Experimentally determined the optimal pressure: Bi2O3 and Fe2O3, which mostly surround diffusion: Bi2O3 character through the reaction zone. The used methods of free surface and radioactive isotopes as well as x-ray and x-ray spectrum analysis tests locally. Contact annealing: Bi2O3 and Fe2O3 diffusion couples showed that the system is dominated by the unilateral shift: Bi2O3 associated seems to be more susceptible to the dissociation of molecules: Bi2O3 than Fe2O3. This is consistent with the energy of dissociation of Bi-O and Fe-O: 342.6 and 463.3 kJ/mol, respectively. Using the picture of micro mechanism diffusion, it is expected that bismuth ions enter the cell, Fe2O3, take her in chemical interaction in the Middle order, without disturbing the single-phase area iron oxide. And just to achieve a concentration of bismuth ions stoichiometric composition Bi25FeO39 or BiFeO3, a new phase, and the border (Bi2O3 and Fe2O3) gradually shifted in scope of Fe2O3. Found that the solid-phase synthesis of bismuth ferrite with the KCC in diffusion mode due to the preemptive mass parts Bismuth oxide.
