The oxidative dissolution of nickel on air in the system benzylhalogenide – dipolar aprotic solvent occurs to form benzaldehide, benzyl alcohol, 1,2-diphenylethane and traces of 4.4`-ditolyl and nickel (II) complexes.Analysis of reaction product was determined by chromatography-mass spectrometry and ion chromatography. Research of influence of the nature of solvent on dehalogenation process benzylhalogenide by nickel in the presence of oxygen is conducted. Influence of solvent on studied process was estimated on the basis of change of the reaction rate of nickel with benzylhalogenide in the presence of the corresponding solvent and oxygen at 353 K. The reactions were studied by the resistometric method. The highest reaction rate is observed in dimethylformamide. Dependence of the reaction rate from donor number of solvent is established.
